Lipid Management Post ACS or Revas: What Therapies Should be Combined
Guest: Anna Svatikova, M.D., Ph.D.
Host: Sharonne Hayes, M.D
Matching the intensity of LDL cholesterol lowering with the absolute risk of the patient is key in prevention of cardiovascular events. In recent years new lipid lowering drugs (injectable drugs) have emerged, but statins continue to be the first line treatment in management of hyperlipidemia, if patient can tolerate it. We should not underestimate the power of healthy lifestyle (healthy diet and exercise). Without healthy lifestyle, statins and other lipid lowering drugs are less effective.
Topics Discussed:
-
Statins and Statin Intolerance.
- Cholesterol - LDL what are the thresholds of too low?
- Lifestyle choices and changes, how it impacts cholesterol levels
